In the KeyShot Library’s Material tab you can find a number of material presets, that you can apply to your model.
The material presets you see are all created using a KeyShot Material Type. Each library material has been designed to be easy to use with as few parameters as needed. For example, the Metal library materials use the Metal material type and will only display the parameters needed for metal materials. Likewise, the Plastic library materials use the Plastic material type will have only the parameters needed for plastic materials.
You can customize what thumbnail style to use for the selected material by going to Library > Material, right-click on the desired material and select Thumbnail Style in the context menu.
KeyShot ships with 750+ materials ranging from cloths and leathers to metals, plastic and even smoke. The materials are arranged in folders

A KeyShot Content installer is available for KeyShot 10 users on both Windows and Mac. The installer contains high-quality materials with textures from Poliigon that have been excluded form the regular Keyshot installer because of their size. The Poliigon textures used for the materials in the installer can only be used inside KeyShot, if you need the textures for other purposes, visit the Poliigon Textured Materials page for a list of textures used.

After downloading, run the installer. During installation, the new resources will be added to your KeyShot Resource folder and visible in the KeyShot library, Materials tab next time KeyShot is launched. The new Poliigon folder will be added to your Materials folder.
The materials in the Installer are the same as offered in the Content installer for KeyShot 7, KeyShot 8 and KeyShot 9, but they have been updated to take full advantage of the improvements to KeyShot 10 materials.
If you installed the Poliigon material pack in KeyShot 7/8/9 and chose to migrate your resources to KeyShot 10. The Poliigon materials will only be overwritten with the new version, if the folder has been moved from the migration folder to the root of the Material library at the time you install the KeyShot 10 Content pack – Otherwise you will have 2 versions of the “same” material.

Leading the new features are major improvements for caustics, a revamped Materials Library, a new touch-friendly Configurator style, and a new Mesh Simplification Tool, along with new import options and many other improvements across materials, user interface, and workflow capabilities.
KeyShot 10.2 introduces features for Mesh Simplification and Metallic Flakes for Axalta Paint materials.

A new caustic algorithm was developed for KeyShot 10 with additional refinement and speed improvements made in KeyShot 10.2. The new algorithm can handle thousands of lights, runs blazingly fast on the new NVIDIA RTX Ampere GPUs, and allows details and fine structures in the caustics to be seen in a fraction of the time, both up close and at a distance. The KeyShot exclusive set of Axalta paint materials now offer the possibility of adding metal flakes to the paint with new options for Flake Size and Flake Density. Additionally, the metal flakes are randomly distributed and will match the specular reflection and color of the underlying Axalta paint material.
The KeyShot Materials Library has been completely re-done with new material-specific thumbnails to visualize material appearance and properties more accurately. With this, users now have the option to select the thumbnail style from among seven different models for preset, downloaded, or newly created materials. Along with this, the library will now load resources dynamically, no longer locking the library while loading. Note: it is recommended to use the full installer to load this new functionality.
Touch-Friendly is a new Layout Style available in the Configurator Wizard that provides a minimal, touch-friendly interface for Presentation mode. The new style provides customization options specific to the interface elements including options for size, color, styling, and icons. Previous configurators may be updated to use the new style by choosing the Touch-Friendly in the Layout Style options.
Mesh Simplification is a new Geometry Tool that allows a user to reduce the number of triangles in a mesh while keeping the overall shape. This is useful to simplify geometry for later use in KeyVR or other AR applications where performance relies on the number of triangles in the model. This tool is similar to the Re-Tessellate tool that requires NURBS to calculate the new mesh. For models that do not have any NURBS, the new Mesh Simplification tool prevents the need to reduce the quality in the modeling software only to re-import it into KeyShot.
