Suspicious Activities:

If you see something suspicious… call. It may seem overly simplistic but it is really that easy.  If you see suspicious activity, a suspicious car, a suspicious person or persons, call the police non-emergency line at (609) 267-8300 when you see the activity.  We can’t tell you how many people will stop in or call hours or sometimes days after suspicious activity and expect us to do something.  Our best chance at stopping crime in its tracks is to receive the call when the activity is occurring.

Suspicious activities include but are not limited to:

  • Increased vehicle traffic in neighborhood
  • People sitting in vehicles for a long time
  • People hanging in car windows
  • Vehicles frequenting a certain address
  • Vehicles stopping and leaving frequently
  • Unfamiliar vehicles in the neighborhood
  • Vehicles circling the block
  • People looking in windows
  • People looking in mailboxes
  • People loitering/lurking near vacant properties
  • People loitering/lurking around any property
  • People checking door handles
  • Unfamiliar people in the neighborhood
  • People taking photos of properties/buildings
  • Unattended backpacks/packages

Things to make note of when reporting suspicious activity, if known:

  • Time and date of activity
  • Description of activity
  • Make and model of vehicle
  • Color of vehicle
  • License plate
  • Direction of travel
  • Number of persons involved
  • Gender of persons involved
  • Color and type of clothing
  • Description of persons involved

Just remember… If you see something, SAY SOMETHING.

SCAM ALERTS: The Beverly Police Department has been receiving calls about phone-related scams.
– DO NOT provide any personal information to anyone over the telephone.
– DO NOT provide any account numbers.
– DO NOT provide Social Security numbers.
– DO NOT withdraw or send any money.
– DO contact the Police Department if you are a victim of fraud

IRS PHONE SCAM ALERT: If you received a call from the IRS please review the information below.

The IRS generally first contacts people by mail – not by phone – about unpaid taxes and the IRS will not ask for payment using a prepaid debit card, a money order or a wire transfer. The IRS also will not ask for a credit card number or your bank information over the phone.

If you get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS asking for a payment, or your credit card or bank account information, here’s what to do:

  • If you owe Federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.
  • If you do not owe taxes, fill out the “IRS Impersonation scam” form on TIGTA’s website, www.tigta.gov or call TIGTA at 800-366-4484.
  • You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.FTC.gov. Add “IRS Telephone Scam” to the comments in your complaint.

TIGTA encourages taxpayers to be alert to phone and e-mail scams that use the IRS name. The IRS will never request personal or financial information by e-mail, text, or any social media. You should forward scam e-mails to [email protected] Do not open any attachments or click on any links in those e-mails.

Read more about tax scams on the official IRS website at www.irs.gov.

Placing your Police Department services at your fingertips!

The Beverly Police Department is using this app to provide you with better service and to improve communication with the citizens of Beverly. With this app you can follow the latest tweets from Beverly PD, send anonymous tips, commend an officer, submit feedback, ask questions, get directions to the police station, and easily find officer contact information. The latest version now offers push notifications, so we can keep you updated with timely information, and also includes links to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the US National Terror Advisory System (NTAS), so you can be aware and ready for any situation.

All of the forms can be sent anonymously to the department, though we encourage an email address or phone number if you would like a response. Users also have the availability to upload photos and GPS information with the app forms (for example a parking issue or graffiti complaint).

As is the case with our other emails, online forms, and social media, this app is not for any type of emergency situation. The Beverly Police attempt to review all messages in a timely fashion but do not always actively monitor all messages and activity at all times.

The app developer, WiredBlue LLC, has more features planned for future releases. Any suggestions and feedback can be directed to the department by using the Questions & Feedback feature on the app with the topic "App Suggestions" or by emailing the the app developer directly at [email protected]
