Amazon Prime Video will now show pay-per-view UFC fights

If you’re a UFC fan you’ll now have another place to watch fights – Amazon Prime Video.

The online retailers just announced that starting with UFC 222 on March 3rd, all pay-per-view UFC fights will be available to buy and watch on Amazon prime.

Fights can be preordered and also purchased up to four hours after the start time (in case you want to tune in late just for a title fight) and purchasers will also be able to rewind during the event and replay it within a 24-hour window.

It’s the first time live pay-per-view material is being made available on Amazon Prime Video, and is another reminder that the platform thinks live sports are an important component of an attractive content offering.

While UFC’s fights are available to buy and stream on their own website, this deal is important because it adds a viewing option where many more potential viewers will likely already have accounts and payment methods on file. No one likes signing up for a service or downloading a new streaming app on their device, so having UFC pay-per-view available for Prime members to easily buy should lead to more viewers and purchases, especially for the more casual fan.

Amazon Prime announced Wednesday that it will begin carrying UFC pay-per-view events for its domestic audience, beginning with this weekend's UFC 222 in Las Vegas.

According to a news release, Amazon Prime membership is not required to purchase a UFC event. The cost per event is $64.99, the same as on other platforms.

The news comes as UFC is negotiating its next media rights deal. UFC's exclusive multiyear deal with Fox expires at the end of 2018.

Amazon entered the sports rights business in a big way in 2017, when it signed an exclusive digital deal with the NFL for Thursday Night Football games. According to the NFL, Amazon's Prime Video streams accounted for approximately 2.5 percent of overall viewership for those games in 2017.

Sports Business Daily reported that negotiations were led by Amazon head of sports Jim DeLorenzo, IMG Media senior vice president Hillary Mandel and UFC vice president and chief financial officer Andrew Schleimer.

Don’t wait until the fights are starting to make sure you have a streaming device you can rely on to stream the UFC Middleweight and Flyweight championship matches. If you have a Fire TV device, you’ll find it simple to set everything up for the big fights.

On June 12, UFC 263 is broadcasting a night of MMA fights live from the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz. The Pay-Per-View Main Event is headlined by two UFC championship fights.

Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya (20-1) is defending his UFC Middleweight championship in a rematch against Marvin “The Italian Dream” Vettori (17-4-1). Adesanya is coming off of his first career loss in his quest to become a two division champ, but he still has this strap and he plans to keep it. Vettori scored a win on one scorecard the first time he faced Adesanya, but lost a split decision based on the two other judges.

Also Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1-1) will defend against his number one contender Brandon Moreno (18-5-2). Plus Welterweight superstars collide as Leon Edwards (18-3) takes on Nate Diaz (21-12).

You Can Now Watch UFC Pay-Per-View Fights Through Amazon

To catch a big UFC fight you usually only have two options: be a cable or satellite TV subscriber and pay an additional fee, or head to a crowded sports bar and hope you can find a seat that’s not next to a guy looking to start his own brawl. Well, now Amazon is selling UFC pay-per-view packages for the cord cutters out there who want to stay at home.

That’s right—for the first time ever, Amazon is selling pay-per-view packages, starting with this Saturday’s UFC 222 (Cris Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya). You don’t need to be a cable or satellite TV customer, and you don’t even need to have an Amazon Prime account. For about $65, you can watch the fight on all the same devices you’re able to watch Amazon Prime Video on. It’s not cheap, but it’s better than paying for the package on top of a monthly cable or satellite subscription. And if you can’t stand the fight crowd at your local sports bar, this is a great option.

The packages for this Saturday’s event are already live and ready for purchase. Simply head to the site and purchase it like any other item on Amazon. Come Saturday night, open up your Amazon Prime Video app and you’ll be good to go. Your purchase also includes replay access for 24 hours after the event, which is nice if you can’t catch it while it’s live, or just want to watch it again the next day.
