The Runecarver is located in Torghast, Tower of the Damned. Using [Soul Ash], this master smith can help the Maw Walker craft powerful pieces of legendary equipment.
The Runecarver was imprisoned in Torghast long ago and no longer remembers his life before he was a prisoner. His designs were extracted from him and used for the Mawsworn army. He was forced against his will by the Jailer to craft Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination, referred to by Zovaal as the "vessels of Domination".Ve'nari believes that the Runecarver shouldn't be trusted.
During the Chains of Domination campaign, after recovering the sigil of the Necrolords and bringing it to the Runecarver, it was revealed that the Runecarver was actually the Primus himself. After defending against the Jailer's attack on the Runecarver's chamber, the Primus left an echo of his Runecarver form to aid other Maw Walkers and went to Korthia.
After reaching max level, choosing a covenant, and completing the first chapter of the covenant campaign, players are directed to Torghast. There, they will discover a mysterious key that unlocks the way to the Runecarver. Once players manage to release one of the Runecarver's hands, players are granted the ability to craft Shadowlands legendaries.

To craft a legendary, players will need a base item from one of the production professions (Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, or Jewelcrafting), two missives crafted with Inscription, Soul Ash, and a memory of the runecarver legendary recipe, which is unlocked by completing other objectives in the game (raids, PvP, mythic dungeons, etc).
Players who have Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, or Jewelcrafting as one of their primary professions will unlock the recipes for base items by playing max-level content. The crafted items are not soulbound, and can be traded or sold on the Auction House to other players.
Base items start at item level and have four ranks, up to item level Crafters can produce base items for all eight armor slots, as well as necklaces and rings. As players repeat crafts they will unlock higher ranks of the item, which require the same ingredients, but more of them.
Scribes create missives, which define which stats the final legendary will have. Two different missives are required to craft a legendary:
Legendaries start at item level (rank 1), which requires Soul Ash, and scale up to item level , which requires Patch adds the and item level upgrades, which require [Soul Cinders] from layers in the tower.

Ilvl has always been a measure of strength. And special Legendary items are a reason for pride. The new addon Shadowlands will bring 12 reasons to be proud at once. One for each piece of armor (besides trinkets), but now you can craft Legendary items by yourself. What do u need, who will help and etc. you will find out in this guide.
First of all you need to unlock the Runecarver. Runecarver is a mythical/magical blacksmith whom you will meet while completing the Torghast questline. Good to know that you can’t obtain important reagents for Legendary items until you unlock Runecarver, so do not skip it.
To create your Legendary Gear Piece, you will need:
- A Base Item of the appropriate level and slot type
- 2 Stat Scrolls
- Soul Ash
- The Memory of the Runecarver Legendary Recipe for a Legendary Power that matches the slot type of the Base Item
As you can see this time we can combine different reagents to create a new Legendary item. And all professions finally will come handy for crafting basic items. Blacksmiths, jewelcrafters, leatherworkers, and tailors will be able to craft Base Items. Jewelcrafters can create neck and rings, inscriptionists — stat scrolls
Legendary craft system
Each base item has four Ranks. Craft 10 times rank 1 item to unlock next level, 20 more rank 2 will unlock rank 3, and a further 20 will unlock rank 4. New items require new materials: new cloth for tailoring (Shrouded Cloth), new ingot (shadowghast ingot) for blacksmithing, new leather (desolate leather) for leatherworking. Also for each base item you will need enchant-made reagent.
What about scrolls? This is the domain of inscriptionists. Each Legendary requires two Stat Scrolls. Inscriptionists can create four:
- Missive of Haste
- Missive of Mastery
- Missive of Critical Strike
- Missive of Versatility
This system reminds Azerite power, so pick the best one for your character and go on.
Soul Ash is a currency like Titan Residuum in BFA that you will need to have to create your Legendary gear. Currently on the Shadowlands Beta you will need

Torghast has 6 total Wings. Of the 6 wings of Torghast, only 2 will be active at a time, rotating every week. Each wing is broken up into multiple Layers, ranging from Layer 1 to Layer 12
Soul Ash can be obtained by completing a Layer in one of the wings of Torghast. You can get some Soul Ash according to the following rate:

- Layer#2 → Soul Ash
- Layer#3 → Soul Ash

- Layer#5 → 90 Soul Ash
- Layer#6 → 75 Soul Ash

Completing higher floors will automatically award you with any Soul Ash from lower Layers. For example, for completing Layer 7 you will obtain Soul Ash. In total, you can obtain Soul Ash and Soul Cinders per week for fully completing 2 wings of Torghast.
Memory of the Runecarver is a legendary receipt and the final item you need for your legendary item. Memory of the Runecarver is obtained through specific means of acquisition, such as drops from raid or dungeon bosses. It provides your legendary gear legendary power. Long story short legendary receipt is a new Azerite essence, which can be obtained by loot, honor, PvP and etc. As i said before you have to unlock the Runecarver to obtain his memory.
Today we know about three types of Legendary Powers (I don’t think it will change):
- General — usable by any class/spec
- Class — usable by members of a specific class and spec
- Spec — usable by members of a specific spec within the class
There are many legendary power mods, so some of them are inspired by previous addons. For now we have eight General Legendary Powers usable by any class.
Echo of Eonar
Summon a spiritual familiar to your side. Your spells and abilities have a chance to send your familiar to a nearby ally, increasing their damage and healing by 10% for 20 sec. If no allies are present, your familiar will flock towards your nearest enemy, increasing your damage against them by 8% for 15 sec. Slot: Waist, Wrist, Finger. Judgment of the Arbiter
Dealing damage has a high chance to release a blast of spiritual energy for Holy damage. If another ally who bears the Judgment of the Arbiter is within yards of you, the blast will also arc to them, dealing Holy damage to enemies in the arc. Slot: Wrist, Hands, Finger. Killing an enemy has a high chance to summon an Explosive Mawrat at the corpses location. Third Eye of the Jailer
Killing a creature in the Maw increases your damage by 2%. Killing a creature with the same name continues to stack this effect up to 5 times. Stacks are reset if you kill a creature with a different name. Slot: Head, Shoulder, Waist. Source: Venari, The Maw x (Honored)
The first time you damage an Elite enemy, absorb the next [ / * max(Attack power, Spell power) * (1 + Versatility)] damage from that enemy and reflect it back to them. Reduce the effectiveness of crowd controlling effects by 10%. Frost Death Knight Legendaries Ideal Crafting Order
I prescribe the following crafting order assuming youre not searching for a particular Legendary for off-spec:

What Legendaries Does a Frost Death Knight Create?
Its critical to think about what you want to concentrate on in the game while selecting Legendaries to craft. Do you want to increase your raiding power? Is Mythic + your go-to pastime? Do you want to run a specialized construct or something that can be used for all Death Knight specs?
Often pick the slot with the highest stat budget, such as Shoulder, Chest, Helm, and Legs, while crafting.
Koltiras Favor Slots: Shoulder Crafting, Finger Crafting Shoulder is the preferred position.
Secondary Skills to Employ: Mastery, Crit
When it comes to single goal throughput, this is the best alternative. This is your go-to raiding Legendary since single target damage is the most valuable source of damage in Raids. If youre a progression raider looking to boost your stats, you can craft this first and totally update it. This means youll have to save your crafting supplies before you can get the recipe from Sludgefist in Castle Nathria!
This Legendary is the best for every build, making it incredibly flexible and enjoyable! Obliteration favors the rise in Obliterate, and Breath of Sindragosa complements the rune recharge well.
Rage of the Frozen Champion
Wrist and Hands are the only slots available.
Hands are my favorite form of crafting.

When running Breath of Sindragosa on Mythic+, this legendary is fantastic. Its great AoE and strong single target damage make it a perfect match for Mythic+s damage profile.

For Mythic + with Obliteration, this is the best choice. It provides decent value for both single goal and AoE, making it a great match for Mythic +. For us, its the most well-rounded Iconic.

This is your solution if youre searching for anything that can be used by all Death Knight specs! Great for someone who plays a variety of specs in a variety of situations. It wont do as well as the other options, but having a Legendary for your off-spec is preferable to not having one at all! Death and Decay is applied to the single target rotation.
Due to the haste upgrade, this Legendary still has a good worth in Mythic +. Its much more worthwhile to play Death and Decay now.
Available Slots: Neck, Wrist
Crafting Preference: Neck
Secondary Skills to Employ: Mastery, Crit
This Legendary may have very specific applications. If you need the CC in Mythic +, the stun is extremely useful. This Legendary can be very useful if youre raiding and the add waves come in at 90 second intervals. However, its primarily for use as a pad and doesnt add any value.

I didnt think wed be able to use any of the generic Legendaries. Furthermore, there are some Death Knight Legendaries that do not deal damage. Crafting these at some stage (for PvE) is certainly not worth it:

Legendary Koltiras Favor The best single goal throughput We want to concentrate on a single objective for raiding, so this is the best choice.
A-tier Rage of the Frozen Champion For all builds, this is the second best choice for single goal production.
For Frost Death Knights, Do Not Craft Legendaries…everything else:
