Requesting Mounts and Mount Rarities

Recently got the game about a week ago. I have logged way too many hours since. The one thing I have been dying to have (other than just more general options for scenery and buildings, but it’s obviously tedious to create) is mounts. I would love the option to have 6+ mounts in the game that we can set rarities or drop locations for.

For Example:
Mount 1: 10g at any Shop/+40% Speed, Mount 2: 25g at Shops in Lvl 7+ Zones/+60% Speed, Mount 3: 3% drop chance from monsters in Level 7+ Zones/+70% Speed, etc.

These mounts could be premade or (just like monster design) be able to be crafted by players. I am by no means a coder and have no idea how easy/difficult creating this system would be, but I would gladly spend $ on a DLC that would add this in. The ability to see players riding around on super rare, 0.1% drop chance, mounts with +200% Speed would just be phenomenal. Thank you for reading and I appreciate y’alls time.

More About MMORPG with Flying

Many MMORPGs, especially Asian projects, provides players with an opportunity to make your character fly. Usually, this option is open for specific races or can be obtained with a flying mount. Most of the games use it just like an additional feature or a method of fast-travel. Still, some projects concentrate only on flying, making it a core mechanics. The MMORPG with Flying often limits the usability of this feature to balance the difference between players. For example, many video games have only a gliding function or a time restriction for the flight function. Also, this option is often unavailable in combat mode both for PvE and PvP.

The Flying in MMORPG can be released in several different methods. It can be a temporary option or a constant skill. The first way is released with different potions of flight, specific locations with extended movement system, mounts and other auxiliary elements. Other games provide the ability to fly depending on the chosen race and class. Usually, developers are trying to balance different classes in the flight option, so that you can see various outstanding mechanics in different games, such as separation of the locations for players with different levels, a particular milestone for the ability to fly, and so on. In many games, players can flight only in specifically allowed zones, with lots of restrictions and limits, that makes this feature more cosmetic than functional. Very often in MMORPG with Flying players have wings, that can be customized, improved and upgraded to increase the bonus stats.

10 FREE TO PLAY MMORPGs You Should Try in October, 2021!

Whether you’re an experienced player after extensive beta play or starting new on launch day, you’re going to be doing a lot of running around in Amazon Studios’ new MMO New World.

The first thing you’ll notice after the initial few hours, at least compared to other popular MMOs, is the absence of mounts. Currently, there are no mounts available in New World, and it’s not clear when and how they will be added.

Here’s what we know so far.

Are mounts going to be added to New World?

Yes, eventually mounts will be added to New World. During a roundtable discussion between media members and game director Scot Lane, it was confirmed that mounts will be added.

Lane and the New World team did not give a definite time for when they would be added, however, because they’re still deciding how to add them.

When will mounts be added to New World? How will they work?

The current size of the game world “isn’t of the size that warrants mounts,” according to Lane. The complete size of Aeternum is much smaller than other MMO games such as World of Warcraft, but the the team at Amazon is committed to increasing the game’s size over time. The game is currently small enough that mounts aren’t a necessity, but if the map continues to expand, they might be needed in the future.

As for how mounts will work themselves, the plan is to allow players to benefit from the addition of mounts in more ways than just travelling quickly. In New World, once you progress to a certain point, you’ll have plenty of Azoth, the resource needed to fast travel. And with the inn recall system and the campfire respawn system, there’s no shortage of ways to transport yourself quickly.

Lane said the team has “kicked around the idea of donkeys or wagons or wheelbarrows” that would serve as mounts with storage options, but there’s nothing “in the immediate plans” for those. There’s a chapter of lore in the game, titled “Beasts of Burden” that explains that animals like donkeys and farm horses couldn’t be transported to Aeternum by ship.

When mounts do arrive in New World, there will likely be basic mounts available to purchase or earn, as well as more elaborate mounts that can be earned by extensive grinding or even purchased with real money.

New World: The Pros and Cons of Not Having Mounts

Nearly every MMORPG has its own take on popular features within the genre. Some of these titles have classes, meanwhile others have universal skill trees. One fan-favorite aspect of the genre is amassing many unique rideable mounts, as they serve not only as a faster mode of transportation, but also allow the owner to show off to friends and strangers alike. It has been confirmed that the Amazon Games MMORPG New Worldwill not have rideable mounts, which is one example of New World making bold decisions that set itself apart from its direct competitors.

There are many arguments that can be applied both for and against having mounts in New World. Some players may be pushed away from trying out the game because of this decision. However, the same can be said for players not wanting to try out World of Warcraft because it has a subscription as opposed to New World's one-time purchase. Any number of major design decisions could cause players to be interested where they were not before, or cause them to lose interest. It is up to the player to determine which decisions they like and which they do not. The lack of rideable mounts in New World is an example of such a polarizing choice.

Pros for No Mounts in New World

A key selling point for New World is the fantasy of being among the first settlers in the titular new world of Aeternum. Here, players must explore and chart Aeternum's unforgiving fourteen territories. Furthermore, the plot of New World begins with players shipwrecked on the island. As a result, any animals aboard the ship that would serve as mounts likely did not make it. Therefore, from a lore perspective, it makes sense that there would be no mounts on Aeternum because its animals are not domesticated. Not having mounts allows players to get truly invested in the deeper worldbuilding of Aeternum; this place is not home and should not feel like it.

Unlike other games in the genre that may see the player start out in a well-defined city, New World throws the player right into the action. The title is aiming to be an immersive action-focused MMORPG, which is further explored in its lack of traditional lock-on aiming. PvP alongside PvE is a huge portion of the gameplay experience, and giving players an option to run away from the threat of conflict with mounts does not seem to fit in New World's vision of Aeternum.

Cons for No Mounts in New World

For many players, there is a point where realism and immersion cross into tedium. While this decision with mounts certainly seems to help sell the plot of New World, after fully exploring Aeternum it might become boring to just run everywhere. In MMORPGs, mounts have always been the middle ground between going on foot and fast-traveling. If players fast travel everywhere, they might miss certain world events and mobs to level up their characters. Mounts allow players to move at a respectable speed while having the option to engage in events or fights.

The largest downside of New World not having mounts is that it takes away options from the player when it really doesn't need to. Those in the fanbase that love feeling immersed and shipwrecked would still be able to feel that way by not engaging with mounts at all. However, those that want the convenience associated with mounts because they only have an hour to play and don't want to spend it all running are now forced to play a certain way. Aside from more possible technical issues for New World, there's no reason for the option to not exist.

Whether New World changes its tune about mounts after the official launch or sticks to its guns remains to be seen. However, with the confirmation that New World will have an in-game store for cosmetics and some small time-savers, it seems like a reasonable assumption that mounts could join that store eventually. New World's story and lore can easily be changed, and the story writers can come up with any number of plot-based scenarios that would explain the new presence of mounts. However, some MMORPG fans may love the lack of mounts, as it does force the player to know their way around the world of Aeternum.

New World launches for PC on September 28, 2021.
